Introduction to the New Testament
Looking at the New Testament as a whole, with specific attention to the major themes of the gospels and the writings of Paul. A study of the Biblical drama centered in Jesus, the Christ, and the early church. The purpose of the course is to enhance the student’s understanding and use of the New Testament text in teaching and preaching.
Leader: Bob Atkinson, serves on the Conference staff of the Missouri Mid-South Conference, United Church of Christ, as the Campaign Development Director of a 5 million dollar capital campaign for Outdoor Ministries. Prior to accepting this position in 2002, he served as the pastor and teacher of Trinity United Church of Christ in Lexington, Missouri, for eleven years. Bob received a Master of Divinity degree from Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1991, an M.A. degree in Adult and Continuing Education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1982, and a B.A. degree in Religion from Eastern Nazarene College in Wollaston, Massachusetts, in 1977.

Textbooks: Pheme Perkins. Reading the New Testament: An Introduction. Rev. ed. New York: Paulist Press, 1988. New Oxford Annotated Bible, NRSV or another study Bible using either New Revised Standard Version, Contemporary English Version or the New International Bible.
